They really loooove to play together! Colin can't be free in the house yet, working on that, although these pics look like all is well. The times where he's hiding for me aren't photographed :P But if he keeps improving like he has so far, I'm sure that'll be fine in a little while too! But right now they're upstairs, in their room, because Moby had surgery yesterday so I want them to take it easy today. The more space they have, the harder they run and play! :D
This was one of the few times where Colin was lying on the ground and didn't run, and when I can approach him and start petting, he often does stay in place. He loves being petted under his chin :)
Mobi was on the couch, I picked up Colin and put him there too, and he was ok with that and started to relax near Mobi. Mobi on the other hand, wasn't loving that face near his behind I think, haha! Kicked him away a bit too :D
They make such a cute couple :L
Colin wanted to snooze a bit, but Mobi had too much fun poking his backleg ^_^
Nomnom! This was one of the first times out of the bench without me holding Colin, they all know it's best to share a plate and let Sue have hers :D This was some canned food my parents brought for them, and -a mircale!- Sue loves it!
My mum's good at finding stuff she likes lately, I can't even remember the last time Sue ate candy but now thanks to mum, I have 1 specific brand/flavor that she does eat occassionaly! Not that they need candy, but I do like to give my cats treats at times, and in the case of Dewey it helps to get him to help kittens (yes, I kinda bribe him at times, haha). And normally she eats only a specific brand/flavor of canned food, a mousse to be precise, and never with chunks. But this is a totally different type of food, with chuncks, and she sure loves it! Who would've thought, after 11.5 years... :D The amount of food she rejected throughout is insane, from cheap to expensive, from completely unrecognizable to pure meat... she does love to lick fruits and veggies though :O Anyway, eating kittens :$
Colin and Mobi are the same age, and you can tell that from their bodies and heads as well, but Mobi's still very fuzzy and he packs a bit more kittenbacon on his body, haha. I think Colin will catch up with him sometime though, he already looks and feels a bit more healthy now!
Dewey and his little fan
They can still walk under him, I hope for his sake that they grow soon, gives at least his belly a bit more peaceful time :D
They don't mind the bench, and can at times be found in there as well while the door's open, like this time. Colin loves to sleep in the playrails! And the basket is there because Mobi can easy climb that, and then hop on the scratchingpole, which was a bit trickier for hem to get on

Colin and Dew
Even though he didn't even dare to look at Dew at first, Colin quickly became a huge fanboy :D The way he throws himself at Dew with a look in his eyes that's pure love, poor Dewey, haha! He went from having a crazy jumping, playing kitten to having this! Mobi is a lot better now with Dew, because he started to appreciate Colin's presence (Colin started to ignore the little growls and returned the slaps with playful pokes at that paw, haha, and that did the trick!) and they love to play! But Colin needs to improve outside the bench as well, when I let him out he would rush under the couch if he had the chance, and I then couldn't capture him anymore without the help of Dewey and Mobi. So I started to pick him up and carry him to more controlled areas, or let him eat with the others, things like that. If I pick him up he just hangs there, like a kitten would do when mum picks them up, except I hold him like you'd hold any cat. He just hangs still and scared :( That's slooowly improving now after a week though!
Where Dew goes, Colin goes too! Silly picture, but this was one of the first days of starting to follow Dew. By now, if he can, he's walking right next to Dew, or under him, around him, like he's glued to him :D
And here I put Colin with Dew in the house on top of the scratchingpole. Out of the bench, but still feeling safe with Dewey, and easier for me to keep in control. Dew at first was a bit meh about that, he doesn't love snoozing with kittens, but when somebody shows that much love? I guess he felt flattered, haha, and decided to give that kitten his first proper washing <3
Colin started to relax a bit more already, in his first moments there
Seriously, soooo cute!! :L
But here's a rare sight, this was right after Dewey hissed o_O I've only seen him hiss at fosterkitten Basil, which back then surprised me big time! It's a cat so he must be able to hiss, but I never saw that before in any situation. By now Dewey is 4 years and I've only seen him hiss those few times at Basil, never besides that, that's how incredibely rare that is! What happened though? Colin seemed to be looking for a nipple, like kittens do more often. But judging by the surprised look on Dew's face, followed by that hiss... I think he found one and bit! >.< Poor Dewey!
I straight away put my cam down and was ready to take Colin away, but my sweetheart went back to washing straight away <3

Colin progress!
The first day Colin hissed a bit at me, the next day that got a lot worse. But I wanted to see if I could pet him, and that was a bit scary at first (touching a hissing kitten can go 2 ways, haha) but I trusted my instinct and went ahead. Turns out he secretly did enjoy that :D I couldn't approach him from the front though, I don't think he's used to hands, so gently started petting from the back, letting my hand move up to his face. I don't have any photos of that, I was crawled half into the bench, trying to pet, haha! I spend a lot of time on my knees in that bench those first few days :D On Saturday he did improve a lot more in the back of the bench, petting back there became oh so nice! He also started to walk around a bit more but if he sat near the front when I walked around, or sometimes even turned around on my chair, he straight away rushed back. He still often greeted my hand with a hiss, but he quickly went quiet when I petted him, and I discovered he packs quite a load purr too! He arrived Thursday in the afternoon, here are some pics from Saturday, sooo happy to see his progress :) I do push kittens like him in the first days, I don't have thát much experience with kittens this scared, but it feels like the faster they realize I'm not that bad, the faster things will become more fun for them and the faster I can work on socializing them further.
I filled up the bench more as well in the days that followed, also to help Mobi get up on the scratchingpole too, because Colin loved to be there, safe and high in the back! Every time I approached him here, he hissed at me, but I think these pics clearly tell he doesn't mind me there all that much afterall ^_^

Meet Colin
It's been a week since I first wrote about the newcomer, time for some photos! But first a little update again :) Colin (named after the restaurant where he was found) is improving every day, doesn't hiss much anymore, and his hiding when I get too close is much improved already too. I hope to be able to let him in more rooms soon, because that's what Mobi's used to as well, and I'm keeping them together. Colin did already get his chip and shots yesterday, and while I was there, I left Mobi behind for surgery, poor thing :(
But luckily all went fine and later that day, Mobi came home again, with one of those cones around his poor little head! The vet completely removed his upperarm bone now, she amputated at the usual length at first, from what I understood muscles are then placed over the bone to fill up the space between bone and skin. But with small or light animals it can happen that they use the remaining leg so much that the muscles disappear and the wound opens up again, and that's what happened with Mobi too. The cone isn't a must if he stays off the stitches (which he did fine last time), but I was worried about Dew or Mobi washing, and even more so about Colin playing too enthusiastic! Especially because -yay!- Mobi found an owner :) When he's all healed up he gets to go to his new home, so I want to do whatever I can to make his healing as smooth and fast as possible.
Last night I took off the cone for a bit, so Mobi could clean himself up a bit, eat and drink easier, and I put it back on for the night. Kept Mobi in the bench, Colin in the little room upstairs, which I transformed to kittenroom again, and both weren't happy at all during the night! Dew felt the need to share a few times with me as well that the kittens were sad, he doesn't like that one bit. I woke up loads and on one of those moments, I thought of putting on the cone backwards, cutting a hole for Mobi's leg and somehow make that work. This morning I came down and discovered Mobi had the cone around his waist! >.< Poor little creature, I thought I had it pretty tight, but it seems I overestimated kittennecks, haha! But cutting the cone still seemed like a good idea this morning, so I went ahead and fixed that. Punched 2 holes in the tips of the cone and bound them losely together under his leg, so it'll stay in place. That way he has a lot more freedom and I don't have to worry about the wound. And I just checked, it's still in place :D Here's how it looks now! Considering Colin's face in the back, I think this was a wise choice, haha!
Anyway, back to Colin! Here's the photos I made the first day.
Here's how he came in, oh so terrfied, fur all messy from the defleaing spray. I used my phone to zoom in and look at the screen, so I could see him without looking directly at him
Mobi didn't like that thing in his bench one bit! But when Dew came near, he -as always- put on his engine and joined Dew. When Dew left he went back to being a little bitchy, haha! I covered the bench up with a blanket but kept an open spot in the back so Dew could work his magic
But poor Colin was so terrfied, he didn't even dare to move, sniff, or look at Dewey :/ That's a first...
Here he finally started following Dew with his eyes
But most of the time he just tried to hide in the wall, not looking at anything :(
His eyes stayed big after an hour or so, but not as dramatically as when he just came in
So I decided it was time to start working with him! I sat near the bench, ignoring him but kept talking to him, trying to soothe him with my voice. If he looked my way and I looked back, I kept blinking slowly with both eyes to keep confirming that I ment no harm. And in the mean time I emptied an entire toy basket, throwing them one by one, making Mobi race around like mad, haha! And at some point, Colin started to relax a little! He got a little curious about that black and white thing flying around and all the toys that flew by, stepped down from his hiding spot and had a look
Here he blinked back, progress! :) And such a relief for me, I so hate seeing kittens so scared, it's not needed when they're with me and my cats. And I didn't wanna leave him being so scared, so my goal for that day was get him to relax a little
Things of course stayed pretty impressive though
But he stayed a little curious as well :) I'll post more about his journey here in a bit!
